End Police Brutality

Nationwide Uprising in Nigeria Calls for SARS Disbandment and an End to Police Brutality

On October 8, 2020, Nigerian youths took to the streets, sparking a movement against police brutality. Their anger was directed at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a police unit notorious for profiling, extortion, and deadly encounters with young Nigerians. What began as a cry for justice quickly grew, with more and more young people joining the cause, demanding that the government take immediate action.

Their voices, filled with frustration and hope, called not only for the end of SARS but also for a complete overhaul of the police system. They wanted every officer to undergo thorough reorientation, ensuring that the brutality they had faced for so long would finally come to an end.

These protests were fueled by years of suffering and a deep longing for change. The youth were not just asking for better living conditions and security; they were demanding accountability from their leaders and a commitment to justice. This powerful wave of protests highlighted the urgent need for reform and brought to light the deep-seated issues within Nigerian society.
