Devastating Flood Crisis

"We cannot be held responsible for climate change; if we had known this crisis would happen, would we have built our homes and brought our property here? Have the leaders we elected turned a blind eye to our plight, or have they simply chosen to abandon us?" These are the heart-wrenching words of a resident from Denro-Ishashi, Ifo LGA, Ogun State.

The impact of climate change is undeniable, affecting essential aspects of life, such as clean air, clean water, nutritious food, and safe shelter. The urgent question remains: what steps have been taken to address this crisis? Do the authorities understand the struggles faced by these communities or the risks they endure? Are there any provisions for the countless flood victims across the country?

In conversations with the people of Denro-Ishashi, it became clear that they have suffered recurring flood crises with little to no help. Mr. Moses Atimona, a local resident, emphasized their distance from the river, highlighting that they should not be so vulnerable to flooding. Yet, the reality is tragic: valuable assets have been lost, lives have been lost, and the daily routines of men, women, and children—including their education—have been severely disrupted. This devastating event has forced many families to endure unimaginable hardships.
